Okay...THAT freaked me out!

Here are this week's...
Random Facts and Tidbits

Random Courting the Flame Fact:
Until the 19th century, Boston’s Back Bay area was literally Boston’s…back bay. Thanks to a 19th century filling project, though, the Back Bay is now synonymous with Victorian brownstones and high-end boutiques. I’m sooooo glad Michael Turner decided to open his gallery there (wink, wink). What a perfect choice!

Diana DeCameron Tidbit:
I’ve had crazy dreams my entire life. From as far back as I can remember dreams have always invaded my sleep. Thankfully, most are entertaining. The polar bear dancing in a pink tu tu had me laughing for weeks.

There have been a few dreams, however, that I’ve found to be a bit, well...unsettling. The most vivid example happened when I was 16 years old. I remember awakening to a strange noise. Buzzzzz, buzzzzz, buzzzzz. The sound fluctuated in intensity as it pulled me from my slumber. I opened my eyes and surveyed the room, my mind still fuzzy with sleep. Buzzzzzzz, buzzzzzzz, buzzzzzzz. The sound continued. I rolled from my right side to my left and that’s when I saw it…an orange glowing figure, very loosely drawn for lack of a better description, standing beside my bed.

Strangely unafraid, I narrowed my eyes and focused on it. With what appeared to be a raised arm, the fiery colored orb said, “It’s all right. I’m here now,” in a distinctly male voice and then it touched my arm. The buzzing screamed in my ears when it made contact. Still unafraid, I reached out toward the glowing…thing, but this time it slowly backed away, eventually disappearing into my wall.

Okay, that part freaked me out and I jolted up from my bed (for real this time). Did I mention that I was sleeping and that I sometimes have strange dreams? Anyway, I’m 43 years old now, but I can still remember that dream as if it happened yesterday. In case you’re wondering…no, the orange glowing entity never returned. At least...(scans anxiously from side to side) not yet.

More Random Facts and Tidbits to come.
Have a great week, everyone.

Random Courting the Flame Fact:
Quirky artist Chloe Stuart was never intended to be a main character. It became quite clear early on, however, that this special lady wasn't going anywhere. She fluttered her way into my life, and her story has haunted me ever since. Thank you dearest friend for introducing yourself. There truly would not be a Courting the Flame without you.

Diana DeCameron Tidbit:
I didn't start out an art enthusiast...Courting the Flame made me one.

I'll keep the Random Facts and Tidbits coming as long as you keep enjoying them.
Have a great week, everyone.

And the Fun Continues...

Happy to say that I had quite a few guesses last week.
Let's keep the ball rolling with this week's "facts and tidbits".
As always, enjoy!

Random Courting the Flame Fact:
Leading man Michael Turner is a well educated, well groomed, always in control (for the most part) art enthusiast/gallery owner. He brings Gracie to near hysteria whenever he’s within ten feet of her, but it’s more than just his wavy dark hair and chocolaty brown eyes that has her rattled; it’s the undeniable connection she feels toward him.

As an interesting aside, the idea for Michael’s character was literally born out of the first :30 of the song “Away” by The Toadies. I've always found the opening riff incredibly sexy. For your listening pleasure, I’ve included it here.

Diana DeCameron Tidbit:
I prefer to go barefoot in the summer. I even garden barefoot. When I go to sleep, however, I must have my toes covered, at the very least, with a sheet. Why? Because the sheet protects my toes from the monsters living under my bed. I’m being one-hundred percent serious, folks. Don’t laugh.

Remember, to win one of two free e-copies of Courting the Flame, visit my Courting the Flame Fan Page and answer the question pertaining to this blog. Only one guess per question, please (If you answered last week’s question, you’re more than welcome to answer this one, as well). Just “message” me with your response. Deadline to enter is Sunday, July 22 at 11:59 PM. Winners will be chosen randomly. E-book format of your choice. Choose from E-pub (Sony/Nook), HTML, PDF, Prc (Kindle).

It's official! I love having contests!!

Think, Think, Think, Think, Think...

So it’s 12:30 AM and here I sit. Me, myself, and my blank computer screen. (sigh) I’ll be honest. For as much as I love writing novels, blogging always makes me feel...well, jittery.  Finishing my current work in progress seems far less daunting a prospect in comparison. “What are you going to blog about?” My subconscious continually taunts. The question follows me around like a ball and chain, through the house, the yard, and eventually into my dreams. On more than one occasion I’ve spun around and hollered, “I. Don’t. Know.” in response.

That usually gets a few raised eyebrows.

My Author friends have suggested I discuss my characters, perhaps interview them, and at first that sounded like a fabulous idea. What a wonderful way for you (the reader) to get to know my characters before actually reading the book. But I could never seem to reconcile my soul with that idea. I think the concept bothers me because I tend to be an organic person. I believe things should happen naturally…when and where they are meant to happen. I know the idea works very well for my other author friends. I’ve read their blogs and thought…what a neat idea. But in the end, the best I could talk myself into was posting random Courting the Flame quotes on YouTube. I said to my characters, “Listen…you have thirty opportunities to speak for yourselves!” And they did.

Some have suggested I talk about myself. That one just makes me chuckle. Loudly. Honestly, I lead a pretty boring life, folks. I’m surrounded by a wonderful group of people I call family and friends, but that doesn’t make me interesting or extraordinary…it just makes me incredibly blessed.

And so the taunting continues. “WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BLOG ABOUT?!”

“Enough. I hear you, already!” Think, think, think, think, think, think, think. Wait! (eyes widen) I believe I might just have an idea. How about this? Suppose I take baby steps? Each week I’ll give you a tiny Courting the Flame tidbit…and (waggles index finger) each week I’ll also throw in some totally off the wall Diana DeCameron tidbit. Yes, yes. (taps fingers together excitedly) This could actually be fun. See. Apparently, all I needed to do was sit down and chat with you to find my answers. Who knew?

So let’s give this a try then, shall we? Here are this week’s offerings.

Random Courting the Flame Fact:
Gracie Clarke, my leading lady, is never without her iPod. Heavy alternative rock is her musical genre of choice— the louder the better, but she might be willing to give Tchaikovsky a try…if the right person suggests it. (waggles eyebrows)

Diana DeCameron Tidbit:
Much to my family’s displeasure, I have an obsession with decorative throw pillows. They’re everywhere. At one point, I actually found myself searching for a throw pillow to accent my throw pillows. Yeah. It’s a sickness. know what?! I’m so happy with this idea—
I think I may have just come up with my first contest idea.
(See! And it happened organically! Yay!)

How about we try this:
